Show Notes:

Coach Fav explains how difficult it is to make $100,000 yearly gambling and not have any other income backup. In fact, the IRS notes that the number of strictly career gamblers who do not declare any income outside of gambling is very small. Poker and Sports Betting are the areas of casinos where most of these career gamblers work. Outside of Blackjack card counters, few career gamblers make a living from gambling alone. Year by year the number is from 200 to under 1,000 taxpayers. It is almost always closer to 200 than 1,000.

Coach Fav lists how many gambling decisions per hour occur in the main table games and the House Edge a player faces in several popular games. He then gives examples of mistakes most of us make in gambling at casino table games.  He warns that betting systems that describe gambling with “house money” – “casino money” neglect to state that betting “house money” really means gambling with your profits. Coach recommends the John Marchel’s “Guide to Gambling” book, which goes  deeper into this topic.

Craps Talk: Here’s an inexpensive Regression Craps betting system.  REGRESS-PLACE-PRESS. As with any system there is not a guarantee to make money, but Coach Fav believes using this $36 initial bet regression, one has a very good chance of being successful. The decision to press and how many hits before you come off or down, comes down to  your own judgement and risk tolerance.  Remember it is the TAKE HOME MONEY that’s most important.

Odds and Ends: Janie presents a variety of important tips. She explains that the loss of the American Casino Guide make the Las Vegas Advisor REWARDS BOOK by Anthony Curtis all the more valuable, Janie makes the case that the dark days of winter are a good time to plan future casino resort trips. For example, she already has booked a casino hotel for the October college football game at Allegiant Stadium between Notre Dame and BYU. She is working on booking beach casino hotel locations for NASCAR, and shopping for antiques. It’s the Belterra in Southern Indiana.  She lists other possible casino resorts that offer such nearby attractions. Janie closes by talking about advantages of having an MLife Credit card. She encourages our listeners to check to see if your hotel choice in Vegas has an adequate sized pool with “Complimentary” pool chairs – important for the family that does not want to pay from $20 to $100 a day for pool chairs. Janie always wants a large pool to swim in because she is a power swimmer and likes to really swim.

Episode # 125 The Danger of Deep Play

Podcast Notes:

In the opening segment Coach Fav works toward a definition of “Deep Play” by presenting listener phone calls to Casinos USA Podcasts that are not about Deep Play at all. The two callers are recreational gamblers or want to be recreational gamblers. Both callers enjoyed Casino Fun – 101, a new casino book that we reviewed by interviewing the author (Charlie Frair) in our last podcast. Coach Fav then goes on to define Deep Play.

Deep Play is a term from the sciences of Anthropology and Sociology. Deep Play is a characteristic of individuals who make bets that are so high that they are irrational. More than for financial gain, this Deep Play impulse is about betting for attention, to be a casino celebrity, to be the center of attention, to define your worth by the size of your bets. Such bets stand in the face of the math of nearly all casino table games – deliberately designed as negative expectation games so that the longer one plays, the more likely it is that the casino will win. The math of the game is on the house side.  Despite possible short term Deep Play success by the player; eventually, Deep Play bets will destroy all but the very rich. In addition, the stress of losing thousands of dollars may destroy marriages, families, and employment. The Deep Play impulse is such a powerful impulse for many addicted gamblers that they commit crimes such as embezzlement to continue making these irrational bets. At the very least, Deep Play will most often steal the joy out of the casino experience and add stress to one’s life. To quote Casino Fun 101, “The money you don’t lose is often more important than the money you win.”  Yes, that’s so often the case.

Janie and Coach Fav talk about many reasons why people are attracted to casinos that have nothing to do with dangerous Deep Play impulses.  Janie gives her reasons for visiting casinos.

Finally in the popular “Craps Talk Segment,” Coach Fav reviews a craps betting strategy from a recent Casino Quest YouTube Video that suggests a player should make this opening bet for $640 across the point numbers, placing $100 on the 4-5-9 and 10 and $120 on the 6 and 8. If the player gets one hit on these place bets, they are to regress to $96 across. An opening 7 costs the bettor a $640 loss – in an attempt to win a little more than the $96, thus, playing on “Casino Money.” Ouch! That’s silly.

Coach explains that this first bet strategy makes no sense to him. Why not just bet the $96?  He also challenges the notion of Long Play in a negative exception game, such as craps. One casino visit has nothing to do with future visits.  Just because you are down $4,000 after two visits doesn’t mean that you are going to win it all and more on your third. You could be losing for months. Adding to the Long Play issue, he also challenges the idea that one can gamble with the Casinos Money if they win that $640 across.  MONEY THAT YOU WIN IS YOUR MONEY! Coach believes that the term  “Casino Money” is a misnomer. The term is misleading. Bet the way that you want to, but consider what your motivation is in making large bets. If you think one large bet to open a craps game will lead to eventual success, tread carefully.  If it is a Deep Play impulse to do it, stop immediately.

Risking $640 so to win enough to place the point numbers for $96 is not logical. Two opening 7’s by the dice, puts this bettor down $1280. I bet $96 each time, so it puts me down $192. Big Difference.  Actually, I don’t like risking $96 to start a game, but it’s a more reasonable risk than $640. I do start many games with $76 across – $10 on the 4-5-9-10 and $18 on the 6 and 8.

Show Notes:

Maryland Live, the large 4,000 slots, 200 table games, Casino and Hotel, which are adjacent to Arundel Mills Mall, has dozens of “Dealer Assisted” table games. The technology alone besides the sheer size of this casino sets it apart. For example, the parking garage has digital signs that tell a driver how many spaces are open on each floor and in each row on the floor. Nonetheless, new technology is often confusing – at least the first time one experiences it. Coach Fav and Janie were eyewitnesses to a bettor who claimed he was out over $500 dollars because of technology. Despite the problems, Coach Fav and Janie discuss many other features at Maryland Live Casino and Hotel that make it so special. Arundel Mill Mall is Hanover, Maryland 21706

Segment 2

Coach Fav follows the Vegas Casinos and Sports Books news closely through a digital subscription to the Review journal, the daily newspaper of Las Vegas and Southern Nevada in general. Based on this information, he discusses what two teams are most likely going to play in Super Bowl 2022. The Vegas Books think the odds that these two teams will meet for the right to the title “Super Bowl Champions” are 16-1. Try to guess what teams the bookies see in the Big Game before Coach Fav tells you who they are. By the way, he agrees that these two teams are the most likely to meet.

Segment 3

In our popular 3-2-1 Craps segment, we discuss the important of learning how to play from the Don’t Pass Line and how to hedge that come-out roll if you fear a 7.  Coach Fav is convinced that no one is a complete craps player if they never give the dark side a try, at least when the table turns cold.

Show Notes:

Coach Fav admits to a recent losing streak in an area of gambling in which he has enjoyed great success, sports betting. The NFL upsets were shocking, especially the Jaguars win over Buffalo. However, in the strangest way, he has been saved by scratch off lottery tickets, which have been amazingly successful overall in Western Pennsylvania.  Hard to figure. Random luck indeed.

Shocking Information: Las Vegas Strip Casinos enjoyed the best quarter of profits EVER.

Casinos from coast to coast are making record amounts of money as people return to playing in house slot machines and table games. The numbers are shocking!

Craps Talk features the basic information that Coach Fav believes every craps player should be aware of; yet it is clear that many have no idea about this.  It starts with understanding that there are six ways to roll a seven. From that point every number is considered and the number of ways the dice can make that number are presented. With this information the term “true odds” then begins to make sense.  Coach Fav explains that “Smart Craps” involves playing from the pass line and making a large odds bet behind the line. In addition, add two “come bets” with a large amount of odds. Using the math models, this is the best way to play from the pass line; however, he explains that the bankroll needed is hefty and if the table is cold a large amount of money will be lost.  So it might be best if craps players look at a large number of ways to play this game including understanding the Don’t Pass and Hedge betting. Playing smart can lead to devastating losses.

Odds and Ends

Coach Fav gives an endorsement of the new show at the Strat called “Illuminate.” Anthony Curtis of Las Vegas Advisor calls it the “best show since the shutdown.” Check it out.

Coach Fav explains a place bet pressing system that is trending in Las Vegas called

18, 15, 10. This system is perfect for a $10 table. While no system can guarantee success, this pressing strategy protects the bettor in that she/he is only putting $24 of their stake at risk. Coach Fav explains in great detail the several options a bettor has in using this place bet pressing system.

1. Podcast Feature:

Coach Fav examines the quarterback dilemma that Notre Dame and head football coach, Brian Kelly find themselves in following a recent loss to Cincinnati, a loss where Kelly pulled the starting quarterback, Jack Coan at halftime and played sophomore Drew Pyne. So what happens next? Coach Fav explains all the forces at work. Who will start in the next game, Coan or Pyne? Enjoy this frank and opinionated review of Notre Dame football 2021. 2. Craps Talk:

Something extremely rare happened at the Craps Table at the Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Western Maryland last Saturday night. Thousands of dollars were won (twice) on a bet that many craps experts consider to be “Sucker Bets.”  Make your own call on the All Small, All Tall, Make Them All, bet as Coach Fav makes his position

3. Short Staffing:

Coach Fav “rants a bit” regarding the miscues on Fremont Street and in nearly all the Casinos on the Strip. Simply put it seems as if “short staffing” is now embraced by casino management as patrons continue to comeback to Las Vegas even though customer service in terms of hotel and casino cleanliness, response time by the front desk, limiting the open days and times of many restaurants, higher table limits and other important services continue to hinder the old Vegas that we loved from coming back. (Other Items) Why can’t Resorts World Get It Right? Why are there still so many 20 somethings drunk and even passed out on Fremont Street ignoring the dangers they put themselves in…..?

Episode # 119 Chewing Out of Your Cage

Show Overview:  Coach Fav and Janie discuss both the highs and lows of their week in Las Vegas, including moments when they were “chewing out of their cage.”  Many are upset with the changes in Las Vegas since the reopening after the Pandemic Shutdown. Let’s start with restaurant pricing, charging for pool chairs, little free parking, wait time when attempting to call the front desk or any other area of the casino. Yet the magic of Las Vegas remains. At least Casinos USA still finds it. The Fremont Street Death March points to a classic mistake in Vegas; that is, disregard for the outside temperatures. Please consider Casinos USA advice on where to stay for games at Allegiant Stadium. We also recommend a great restaurant (Irish Pub) and a specific hotel tower to request if one enjoys the pools at Luxor, a casino hotel that is  amazing for not skimping on free chairs poolside. Consider the advantages of doing Vegas with great friends. We encourage it.

Coach Fav explains how he won a craps challenge against a working casino dealer at a neutral casino. Get the details on his 15-6 strategy, one that has been good to Coach Fav over the years. Coach Fav is the originator of 3-2-1 Craps, but he used a different strategy to win the competition with the Vegas Casino Dealer.

The sports betting mania is also covered. The “free seats” in Sports Books are gone with few exceptions. Coach Fav also presents his college and NFL picks for Sept. 25 and 26. As usual his picks are for recreational enjoyment and should not be followed by betting real money. Remember that the Raider QB, Derek Carr, is the real deal – one of the most accurate passers in the league.

Finally, Coach Fav and Janie agree with Travel Ruby of YouTube fame and give one MAJOR reason for not staying at Harrah’s despite the great suite that they enjoyed while there.

Part 1  Sports Betting Overview

Whether it is at a brick and mortar sports book inside of a casino or a legal online betting app, Casinos USA uses spread bets for NFL games and Money Line Odds for College Football Bets. Episode # 117 Destination Weddings and 3 Card Poker

Contact Casinos USA Podcasts: 24/7 voicemail 1-724-519-4556

Show Notes:

Part I Janie tells of a recent Destination Wedding out of the country where the American wedding guests lost several days trying to get back home amid flight cancellations.

Part II Three Card Poker Basics: The lowest hand you should not fold on is a Queen, six, four. The dealer needs queen high to “qualify” with at least a queen to continue. The Ante Bonus bet pays you if you have a straight or more even if you lose the hand to a dealer. Rookie dealers too often mistakenly do not pay this bet. Correct them. The pair bet raises the house edge, but if you are getting cards, why not? The Long Shot 6 card bet is explained. The house edge in 3 card poker is 2.01% without the side bets, and that’s as good as placing the 6 and 8 in craps. 3 Card Poker is another table game where your moves cannot hurt another player. There is no draw.  Relax and enjoy this interesting game.

Part III Coach Fav maintains that system rigidity at a craps table can make one a loser. Think about changing your style of play if the table is “killing you>”

Part IV: Odds and Ends – Coach Fav has some fun with special tidbits of information.
